How to make your own (tempeh) bacon!
I love me some bacon! Tempeh bacon that is…
For me tempeh was definitely an acquired taste so if you don’t fall in love with this bacon on the first shot it’s OK… there’s still hope for you! There are loads of other ways to make vegan bacon and this is just one of them so play with the different varieties until you find one you love! In this recipe i use tamari but you can use bragg’s liquid aminos or soy sauce if you prefer.
Ingredients:
1 8 oz Package Tempeh, sliced thin
¼ C Tamari
2 t Liquid Smoke
1 T Agave Nectar (or maple syrup)
½ t Cumin
Directions:
- Whisk together tamari, liquid smoke, agave, and cumin to make a marinade
- Soak tempeh strips in marinade 5-10 minutes (the longer you soak, the more flavor you’ll get). Make sure to toss the strips in the marinade so they all get a nice coating on both sides.
- Heat a frying pan over medium/low heat
- Place soaked tempeh strips into the pan. Heat on each side until a little brown and crispy. Cook 1-2 minutes on each side until crispy.
