That’s right- I’m on a boat right now! How am I posting a blog and being a gazillion miles offshore at the same time? The miracles of modern technology and scheduling tools! Pretty awesome, eh? Really I just wanted to try out the scheduling functionality. But it’s great timing for this post because I want to talk about Shakeology and how it fits into my life- even when I’m on a boat!

SO… I post a lot about Shakeology in my day to day posts because it really has changed my life and I just want to shout that from the rooftops!! Much like Benefit They’re Real eyeliner has changed my life and I share that with everyone I know, I want to share the miracle of Shakeology with everyone I know.

 

So what is it?

It’s a powdered shake mix that you can mix with water, juice, milk (I use soy or almond most of the time), etc and drink daily. It’s not a protein powder, though it does have tons of protein. Protein powder is meant to be a post-workout recovery drink or supplement when you’re trying to build muscle or get more protein in your diet. It doesn’t have the makeup of a full meal. Shakeology is meant to replace a full meal in your day. It’s full of all sorts of amazing superfoods and will leave you feeling full and ready for your day! Well… at least that’s what it does for me. I drink mine for breakfast every morning and it helps keep me on track all day. And I definitely think it makes me healthier. I do lots of things to help keep me healthy like eat a vegan diet and go to the chiropractor all the time so I don’t know what exactly it is that has made me get sick less and when I do get sick it’s less sever and shorter in duration… but whatever it is I’m not changing it!

Why Shakeology?

Well… it’s simply the best meal replacement shake out there. There are other awesome alternatives and personally I recommend Vega One if you’re going to get something less expensive than Shakeology. While it’s less expensive, it doesn’t have all of the same things it in that Shakeology does, but it’s still pretty amazing. And tastes really good too! Honestly I love the chocolate flavors of both Shakeology and Vega One but the tropical strawberry of shakeo had to grow on me and the vanilla vega one I have to dress up a bit.

 

SO seriously what is it?!

I know- I’ve been vague… I told you it’s a meal replacement full of superfoods but haven’t gotten into much of the details of what exactly that even means. There are over 70 superfood ingredients so I’m not going to list them all here (you can check them all out here) but here are a few that I love having in my daily diet:

Can you live without them? Of course. Will you be living your best possible life without them? Probably not. And I know I want to be as healthy as possible and be one of those 100 year olds that is still running around all spunky having the time of my life.

So that’s why even when I’m on vacay in the middle of the Caribbean lounging around in sunshine (sorry to all of you not here with me) I bring my Shakeology (in individual ziplock baggies!). I don’t want to get sick on this trip and I want to have lots of energy! And that’s what Shakeology does for me. Also I want to resist some of the decadent desserts they have on this boat!

Now… while Shakeology does provide a bunch of servings of greens and all sorts of vitamins, I don’t want to downplay the role that fresh leafy greens play in a healthy, balanced diet! I drink my shake every day but also try to get in my greens daily! Just because I’m drinking this awesome shake doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be getting my nutrition directly from the source- it just makes me sure I’m getting all that love in my body every morning without having to spend time making breakfast. SO don’t eliminate real food from your life just because you’re drinking Shakeology!

1 T maple syrup (a little less than a tablespoon suits me- otherwise it’s too sweet)
